First of all, I've completely rewired vehicles before without any trouble, but my '66 C10 is causing me to scratch my head a little. I doubt it would be hard at all, if I had something to start with. Under the dash back to the tail lights appears to be original, unmolested, and in good shape. Not so much for under the hood. When I got the truck, it came with no motor, and it seems like all the wiring under the hood was hacked to pieces when they pulled the motor, as I seem to be missing quite a bit. Ordinarily I'd just buy a complete new factory harness, but I really just need what goes under the hood. I'm missing all the battery cables, solenoid, and ignition wiring from what I can tell. As you can see in the pic, I have some wires coming out of the firewall to the right of the heater box, and no clue what they are for. I have the plugs for the firewall bulkhead connector, but most of the wires are cut. The headlight harness seems to be intact. I plan on installing a MSD ignition box, so I'll just need to know which wires go to the ignition switch. Ideally, I'd like to just replace everything up front, either with new, or an uncut original.

Hasselback are you going to run an HEI if you are you`ll just need to run a 12 gauge pink wire from the line out from your ignition switch to the ( pink wire from Igninition switch ) HEI, then the fire wall plug that is on the top right recessed area of the firewall will have the Solenoid wire ( purple ) that wire when looking from the firewall will be on the your lower right side of the plug, these are a PITA plugs as they don`t seem to hold well but in any case that will run down to your Solenoid, thtas about it for the run circut...

Thanks for the info. Was planning on using the MSD Streetfire ignition. I've used them on previous vehicles, and really like it. Does anybody have any wiring diagrams for the C10? What about my wires hanging by the heater box? And another stupid question.....can I use the solenoid out of the donor truck that my engine came from, or does it have to be specific to the 66 C10?

The solenoid from the donor will work if it fits the starter, some starters where Heavy duty, as noted by the extended housing, the solenoids had an extended brass sleave to be compatable...the wires comming down by the heater box, is the solenoid, the temp wires, and ballast by pass..... heres a diagram schematic as well...

Thats great, thanks! I'll just grab the solenoid out of the donor truck then. Now for another question. I have an internally regulated alternator that's going in it. Can I do away with the voltage regulator?

Good catch Charlie, but he didnot mention manual or auto, don`t think the manuals had a neutral safety switch....! Did they..? At least not yet at that time.

I'm installing an auto tranny. It's got the NSS on the side as you can see in the pic, I'll just have to figure out how to wire that up too. Take a look at the other red switch that's installed in my truck. Any ideas what it's for? 4 way flashers by any chance?

There may be a spot on the column or mount a switch on the trans?? What column do you have /Year?

If your truck is an auto, the it should have one of these looking similar, on the column under the dash, the purple solenoid wire should run thru it to only start in park..

My column is set up for 3 on the tree. It's a 66. The tranny that's going in it is a Ford C6 Automatic, and it has a NSS on the side with 4 wires. I'll probably a end up with a hurst or B&M floor shifter. Some of the ones I was looking at also come with a NSS.
